Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

ExcelGurus, LLC operates Excel-Gurus.com and sells Excel-based software tools. This policy explains what information is collected, why, who it is shared with, and what control you have over it. It is written in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, because the aim is for you to actually know what happens to your data.

The short version: personal information is collected when you contact us, download a tool, subscribe to emails, or buy a license. It is used to deliver what you asked for and to run the business. It is never sold. The software tools do not read, upload, or transmit the contents of your spreadsheets.

2. Information you give us directly

Project enquiries

When you submit the form on the Start a Project page, we collect the name, email address, phone number (optional), and project details you enter. This is stored in our client management system (Kitchen.co) and used to reply to you, scope the work, and manage the project if you hire us.

Email subscriptions

If you choose to enter your email address after downloading a free tool, we store that address and send you a short sequence of setup and product emails. This is optional — the download works without it. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing immediately cancels any emails still scheduled.

Purchases

When you buy a license, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your card number. We receive your email address and confirmation of payment, which we use to issue and email your license key and to provide support.

3. Information collected automatically on this website

When you download a free tool, we log the product and version, a truncated IP address (the final portion is removed so it cannot identify a specific connection), an approximate location derived from that truncated address, the referring source, and any advertising click identifier present in the link. This tells us which marketing channels work. We do not use it to identify individuals.

We also use analytics and advertising cookies, described in section 6.

4. Information collected by the software tools

This section covers EG Quote & Invoice and Excel Data Cleaner.

The tools do not read, collect, upload, or transmit the contents of your workbooks. Your quotes, invoices, client lists, and contact data stay in your own file on your own computer. There is no cloud sync and no account.

The paid editions connect to our licensing server for these purposes only:

  • Activation. When you enter a license key, the tool sends the key, an installation identifier, and the software version to our server. The server confirms the key is valid and records the activation so we can enforce the two-machine limit.
  • Periodic licence check. The tool occasionally confirms the license is still valid, sending the installation identifier, version, and a timestamp.
  • Deactivation. If you release a machine, the tool tells the server so the slot is freed.

The installation identifier is a one-way cryptographic hash derived from hardware characteristics of your computer. It cannot be reversed to reveal your hardware details, your name, or your location. Its only purpose is to distinguish one installation from another so licenses are not shared beyond the permitted number of machines.

Our server also records the technical details any web request carries — the software’s request signature and the time of the request — together with the date of the most recent check. Your network IP address is visible to our server when the tool connects, as it is for any internet connection.

Free editions do not contact our server for licensing.

5. Who your information is shared with

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We use the following service providers, who process data on our behalf:

ProviderPurposeWhat they receive
HostingerWebsite and server hostingAll data stored on the site, as our host
StripePayment processingPayment and billing details
ResendSending emailEmail address, email content
Kitchen.coClient and project managementProject enquiry details
GoogleAnalytics and advertisingWebsite usage data, cookie identifiers
MicrosoftBing advertisingWebsite usage data, cookie identifiers

We may also disclose information if required by law, or in connection with a sale or transfer of the business.

6. Cookies and tracking

This site uses:

  • Necessary cookies — required for the site to function.
  • Analytics cookies — Google Analytics, to understand how the site is used.
  • Advertising cookies — Google Ads and the Microsoft Advertising UET tag, to measure which ads lead to downloads. A Google click identifier may be stored briefly and attached to a form submission or download so we can attribute it to the right campaign.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so does not prevent you from using the site or the tools. You can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s browser add-on.

7. How long we keep information

  • Project enquiries and client records — for the duration of the working relationship and afterwards as needed for tax, accounting, and legal records.
  • License and activation records — for as long as the license is valid, since licenses are perpetual and we need the record to support you.
  • Email subscribers — until you unsubscribe, after which the address is retained only to ensure we do not email you again.
  • Download logs — retained in truncated form for marketing analysis.

8. Your rights

Wherever you live, you may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or send you a copy. Use the support page and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for making a request.

If you are in the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, you also have the right to object to or restrict processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your national data protection authority. Our lawful bases are: performing a contract (delivering purchases and support), legitimate interests (running and improving the business, preventing license abuse), and consent (marketing emails and non-essential cookies). Data is stored on servers in the United States.

If you are in California, you have the right to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA.

9. Children

These are business tools and services. They are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us through the support page and we will delete it.

10. Security

The site and licensing server use encrypted connections. Access to client and license data is limited to the business owner. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not store payment card details, and the software tools never transmit the contents of your files.

11. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use your information will be noted clearly.

12. Contact
