Excel Workbook Rescue
ExcelGurus fixes Excel workbooks that a business depends on and that have stopped working properly: macros that throw errors, files that take minutes to open or calculate, and tools built by someone who has since left. An Excel VBA developer finds what is wrong, fixes it, and leaves the workbook easier to keep working. You approve a fixed price before any work starts.
Choose “Fix or change a macro” when you describe the problem.
Signs a workbook needs rescuing
- A macro stopped working after an Office update or a move to a new computer
- Error messages such as “Run-time error 1004” or “Compile error”
- The file is slow to open, save or recalculate, or Excel freezes while it runs
- Only one person knows how it works, and that person has left
- Numbers stopped adding up, and nobody is sure which formula is wrong
- The workbook has been copied and patched so many times that no one trusts it
What a rescue includes
- Finding the cause, not just the symptom. A macro that fails on one sheet often fails because of something elsewhere.
- The fix, tested on a copy of your file with your own data.
- Cleanup where it pays: slow code and fragile formulas replaced, so the next change does not break it again.
- Plain notes on what was wrong and what changed, so you are not left depending on one person again.
How it works
- Describe the problem. A few words is enough to start.
- Send a copy of the workbook when you reply to our first email. A copy with confidential data removed is fine.
- Get a fixed-price quote. You approve the price before any work starts, and the price you approve is the price you pay.
- See it working. Small fixes take no deposit: you see the fix working, pay, then get the file. Larger jobs take a 50% deposit, with the balance due once you have approved the work.

After the rescue: keep it working
A workbook that runs part of your business needs looking after: new staff, new requirements, the next Office update. Many clients come back for the next change. Some keep David on a monthly plan of support hours for whatever comes up.

Common questions
Can you fix a workbook someone else built?
Yes. Most rescues are workbooks built by someone else, often years ago. The first step is reading how it works, then fixing what is wrong without breaking what still works.
How much does it cost to fix an Excel workbook?
It depends on what is wrong and how large the workbook is. Small fixes start at $69. You get a fixed-price quote first and approve it before any work starts.
Is it safe to send my file?
Send a copy, and remove or replace confidential data if you prefer; the fix can be built and tested on that copy. The workbook stays yours.
